Rates & PaymentRatesFor a free estimate and detailed rate information, please fill out the form on my Free Estimate page. Because no two manuscripts are alike, it is impossible for me to provide an accurate quote without first seeing your project. When you complete the submit form, I will do a sample edit, which will allow me to give a more accurate estimate for your project and let you see how I work. The submit form is by no means an obligation to engage my services. Typically, with novel-length manuscripts, I work with word rates. In doing so, I am able to give you the total estimated cost of service beforehand. Rates are based, largely, on the level of editing a project may require (see description of services) and range from .01 cent/per word (for proofreading) to .05 cents/per word or more (for heavy editing). Sometimes clients wish to work on an as-needed basis, for which I will consider hourly rates. BillingI require a 25-percent deposit as a retainer, which is applied to the project; this is essentially to let me know you are serious about your project and to hold a place on my calendar. Following that, payments can be mutually arranged over the course of our work together. Most clients prefer to pay in three or four installments. I send updated invoices by e-mail. Methods of PaymentI accept credit card payments through PayPal, as well as cashier’s checks, money orders, and personal checks. Please note, however, personal checks must clear before work can begin. ContractsOnce an estimate is given, we can negotiate the terms of a contract. This will involve discussion about the scope of the project, an estimated timeframe for the project’s start date and completion, as well as the final rate. If at any time, the scope or terms of the project change, you will be notified immediately. Everything is given to you upfront and changes are made per your agreement.
